Actually Carl, you'd still be called Carl. It's just a way of reducing names to one syllable. You'd only be Caz if your name was Catherine, Caroline, etc.
Stacey, I have known people from there who DO have one syllable names that are modified that way. Perhaps it was their desire and not necessarily the U-thing to do? As for Carl, that is pronounced as if it were two syllables anyway by most, so I think it would still be "Caz." Okay, Staz?
No, its Stace. Carl in two syllables would be Carol
Nickname is Daz, right? Or is that short for Darren in Welsh or something I am missing? It was during your first arrival when we were all going at it, and I called you "Daz" in a post. Your reply was "Andii may call me Daz, you may not". So I never did after that.
LOL! I remember that thread well. Remember when I pmed you and called you Caz, after Darren said you couldn't call him that?? To me, I thought Darren (Daz) was completely off base when he first joined the board, but has become quite cool since then, so he's cool in my book.
BTW, I still want the old board back. There was just something about that layout that was magical. And I actually like the way posts get way off base sometimes. That is how it's alwayz been, especially with Raggz around. I think that's part of what keeps me around. I've ignored that fruity thread all together though. It would literally take me 24 hours to read it all!
Fly, what happened to that thread you started discussing obscure glam? You know, the one I asked you if your avatar/nym was a sort of take-off on Phil Manzanera's glasses during Roxy's early days.
Anyway, regarding the names thing, I know a set of twins named James and Jayne. They are originally from North London, don't recall where, and people call them both Jaz.
Fruity thread, that thread is like an elderly relative that lives with you. It's been around so long that it's become a fixture.

a right pompous testicle. Call me 'Daz' whenever
you want.
Re: 'short in Welsh'. I don't think so. Daz/Gaz
(Gareth)/Baz(Barrie) is more an English thing.
Andii calls me 'Dar'. 'Dar' in Russian means
'The Gift,' which I am of course.
D.
Strictly for those who don't know...
"Welsh" is not related to English at all, it's actually closer to Portoguese. It's part of the Gaelic family of languages, along with Irish, Scottish and Breton(Brittany). There are others, such as Cornish, which is the closest to actual British still around. Not English, British.
